A store is not a catalogue with a buy button
Rasp International builds ecommerce stores on WooCommerce and Shopify for Indian businesses selling domestically or internationally. Most failed stores fail for the same reasons: a checkout that asks too much, a catalogue nobody can navigate, payment options the customer does not have, and shipping costs that appear as a surprise at the last step.
What we build
1. Platform selection
WooCommerce gives you ownership, flexibility, and no revenue share, at the cost of needing maintenance. Shopify gives you a managed platform and predictable behaviour, at a monthly cost and less control. Neither is universally right and we pick based on your catalogue size, team, and margin.
2. Catalogue architecture
Categories, filters, variants, and search that work at your catalogue size. A structure that is fine for forty products collapses at four hundred. Getting this wrong means customers cannot find what you sell, which is the only job the store has.
3. Payment integration
Razorpay, PayU, Stripe, PayPal, UPI, and international cards where relevant. For cross-border selling, currency display and the payment methods your target market actually uses. A European buyer offered only UPI will leave.
4. Shipping and tax
Weight and zone based rates, courier integration, GST configuration, and for export orders the customs and documentation implications. Surprise shipping costs at checkout are the single largest cause of cart abandonment.
5. Checkout engineering
Fewest possible fields, guest checkout, visible trust signals, and no forced account creation. Every additional step costs conversions. Most Indian stores ask for information they will never use.
6. Performance and mobile
Most Indian ecommerce traffic is mobile, often on uneven connections. A store that is slow on a mid-range Android phone is a store that does not sell, regardless of how it looks on your laptop.
How this differs from ecommerce export setup
This page covers building your own store on your own domain. If your objective is selling through Amazon Global, Alibaba, or other marketplaces rather than your own storefront, that is a different service covered on our ecommerce export setup page. Many businesses eventually run both: marketplaces for reach, own store for margin.
Common failures
- Surprise shipping at checkout. The classic abandonment cause.
- Forced account creation. Losing buyers who wanted to pay and leave.
- Unusable catalogue. No filters, no working search, products nobody can find.
- Slow on mobile. Where most of the traffic is.
- Wrong payment methods. Not offering what the buyer’s market uses.
- No abandoned cart recovery. Leaving recoverable revenue untouched.
Who this service is for
Businesses selling physical products who want a storefront they own, and marketplace sellers who want to reduce dependence on platforms that take a cut and own the customer relationship.
Frequently asked questions
WooCommerce or Shopify?
WooCommerce gives you ownership, flexibility, and no revenue share, but needs maintenance and someone responsible for updates. Shopify gives you a managed, predictable platform at a monthly cost, with less control and a transaction fee. Catalogue size, team capability, and margin decide it. We do not have a default we push regardless of situation.
Why do customers abandon my cart?
Most commonly surprise shipping costs appearing at the last step, followed by forced account creation, too many fields, and a slow mobile experience. Most Indian stores ask for information they will never use, and every extra step costs conversions.
How is this different from selling on Amazon or Alibaba?
This is your own storefront on your own domain, where you keep the margin and own the customer relationship. Marketplaces give you reach but take a cut and own the buyer. Many businesses eventually run both, and marketplace setup is covered separately under ecommerce export setup.
Does my store need to work on mobile?
Most Indian ecommerce traffic is mobile, often on uneven connections. A store that is slow on a mid range Android phone is a store that does not sell, regardless of how it looks on your laptop.
