AEO and GEO Optimization for Indian Exporters

Buyers are asking AI for supplier shortlists

AEO is Answer Engine Optimization: being the source an AI cites when it answers. GEO is Generative Engine Optimization: appearing inside AI-generated summaries such as Google AI Overviews. What AEO and GEO work involves

1. Entity clarity

AI systems need to understand what your business is, what it makes, and where, with no ambiguity. That means consistent naming across your site, your Google Business Profile, directories, and any mention of you anywhere. Inconsistent business names and addresses across sources make you an unreliable entity, and unreliable entities do not get cited.

2. Structured data

Organization, Product, Service, and FAQ schema that states plainly what you do, what you make, which markets you serve, and what certifications you hold. AI systems parse structured data far more reliably than they parse marketing prose. A page that says “world class quality since 1995” tells a model nothing. Schema stating your product categories, HS codes, and certifications tells it everything.

3. Citable content

AI cites specific, factual, self-contained statements. Content that answers a direct question in a direct sentence gets quoted. Content that meanders through three paragraphs before making a claim does not. We restructure your content into question-led sections with the answer stated immediately, which is also, conveniently, better for human buyers.

4. Question coverage

We map the questions buyers actually ask about your category and build pages that answer them properly. Who are the leading Indian suppliers of a product. What certifications should an Indian supplier hold for the EU market. What MOQ is typical. Each is a query an AI will field, and each is a chance to be the cited source.

5. Crawler access

AI crawlers must be able to reach your site. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended are commonly blocked by default in robots.txt or by CDN bot rules, often without the site owner knowing. We check and fix this first, because everything else is pointless if the crawler is being turned away at the door.

6. Third-party corroboration

AI systems weight information that appears in multiple independent places. Your claim about yourself on your own site is weak evidence. The same fact appearing in a directory, an association listing, a news mention, and a review carries far more weight.

Why this matters more for exporters than for domestic businesses

  1. The buyer cannot visit you. An overseas buyer has no way to walk into your factory, so they lean harder on whatever sources they can reach, including AI.
  2. Supplier discovery is exactly the task AI is used for. Shortlisting unknown suppliers in a foreign country is a research task, and research tasks are where buyers reach for AI first.
  3. Almost nobody in your category has done this. Competing for AI citation in Indian export categories is currently uncontested in a way search rankings have not been for fifteen years.
  4. Being absent is invisible. With search, you at least appear on page four. With AI citation, you either get named or you do not exist in that conversation.

What this is not

AEO and GEO are not a trick for gaming AI outputs, and anyone selling guaranteed AI rankings is selling something that does not exist. Nobody controls what a model says. What you can control is whether your business is legible, factually consistent, well structured, corroborated elsewhere, and reachable by crawlers. Those conditions make citation likely. Nothing makes it certain.

Who this service is for

AEO and GEO suit exporters who are already reasonably visible and want to hold that position as buyer behaviour shifts, and exporters in categories where buyers do genuine research before shortlisting. It is a poor fit for exporters with no website worth citing.

Frequently asked questions

Can you guarantee my business gets cited by ChatGPT?

No, and nobody can. Nobody controls what a language model says. What you can control is whether your business is factually legible, consistently described across sources, well structured, corroborated by third parties, and reachable by AI crawlers. Those conditions make citation substantially more likely. Anyone selling guaranteed AI rankings is selling something that does not exist.

Is AEO different from normal SEO?

They overlap but the objective differs. SEO aims at ranking a page in a results list. AEO aims at being the source an answer engine cites when it responds. Both reward clear structure and factual content, but AEO puts more weight on entity consistency, structured data, and self-contained factual statements that a model can quote without ambiguity.

Are AI crawlers blocked on my site?

Very possibly, and most site owners have no idea. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended are frequently blocked by default in robots.txt or by CDN bot protection rules.
