How Container Transportation Works
The process begins with booking a container through your shipping line or freight forwarder. An empty container is delivered to your factory or warehouse for stuffing. Once loaded, sealed, and documented, the container moves to the port or CFS (Container Freight Station) for customs examination and vessel loading. For imports, the reverse process applies.
Container types include 20ft standard, 40ft standard, 40ft high-cube, open-top (for oversized cargo), flat-rack (for machinery), and reefer (for temperature-controlled goods). Choosing the right container type affects your freight cost and product safety.

Empty container availability is the biggest pain point, especially during peak shipping seasons. Detention and demurrage charges accumulate quickly if stuffing or port delivery is delayed.
