Container Transportation Services

Container Transportation and Inland Logistics for Exporters

Getting your export cargo from the factory to the port is the first physical step in every international shipment. Container transportation covers the inland movement of loaded containers from your warehouse, factory, or ICD (Inland Container Depot) to the gateway port for vessel loading. It also covers empty container placement at your facility for stuffing.

How Container Transportation Works

The process begins with booking a container through your shipping line or freight forwarder. An empty container is delivered to your factory or warehouse for stuffing. Once loaded, sealed, and documented, the container moves to the port or CFS (Container Freight Station) for customs examination and vessel loading. For imports, the reverse process applies.

Container types include 20ft standard, 40ft standard, 40ft high-cube, open-top (for oversized cargo), flat-rack (for machinery), and reefer (for temperature-controlled goods). Choosing the right container type affects your freight cost and product safety.

Common Challenges Exporters Face

Empty container availability is the biggest pain point, especially during peak shipping seasons. Detention and demurrage charges accumulate quickly if stuffing or port delivery is delayed. Weight restrictions on road transport vary by state and route. And improper container stuffing leads to cargo damage claims that insurance may not cover if lashing was inadequate.
